We must not let virtual life kill off the high street, says TIM NEWARK



MY mother likes spending cash in shops but soon this may be a historic pastime if the internet revolution continues to eradicate high street banks, traders and cashpoints. Her grandchildren look forward to her generously giving them a crisp £50 note for birthdays but in the future she might only be able to send it as an electronic transfer – how lacking in fun is that? – and she can't do that because she doesn't use a computer.
