Thousands of BT workers will transfer to infrastructure arm Openreach today, completing a “major milestone” in creating the separate business. The transfer of 31,000 workers, including fibre broadband engineers, is believed to be the biggest one-off transfer of employees in UK corporate history.

EARLIER this summer, to mark its 70th anniversary, the Prime Minister announced a much-needed £20billion cash boost for the NHS. Yet today this newspaper reveals that the biggest medical emergency of our times - the scourge of dementia - is severely underfunded. Surely a large chunk of that £20billion should have gone into research?
