The Supreme Court judgment on Tuesday was supposed to be a triumph for democracy, getting MPs back to work to debate Brexit and other burning issues of the day. Instead, having seen the spectacle of the house of Commons in action, many people will ask why couldn’t the politicians have done us all a favour and stayed away?
