In the large, hangar-like workspace of Mee Saeng Bus Body, an assortment of clanging, whirring and spraying emanates as a mass of mechanics and artists work on the next bus to hit Thailand’s streets. But the finished products of Bus Body are far from your typical single or double-decker transit bus. Here, ostentation is king.

“Right now superheroes are a big hit,” says Somboon Chulasinont, production manager at Bus Body. “Marvel especially,” he adds, gesturing to a nearby bus where a huge image of the Hulk is carefully detailed by one of their three teams of artists. Nearby, a recently finished bus for the same Thai tourist company is emblazoned with several large Spider-Men, hunched over or mid-swing against a lightning blue backdrop of New York City.
