OF ALL the difficult days that have passed in our politics since that historic vote by the British people more than three years ago to leave the European Union, yesterday was perhaps the most traumatic for supporters of that great cause. When the United Kingdom failed to exit the EU on March 29 this year – despite departure being promised literally hundreds of times by the then prime minister – many of us Leave voters had seen it coming and were braced for the let-down.
