The shielding of millions of elderly people during lockdown underlined many of the failings in our adult social care system. But it has also shown us the best way forward to support elderly parents and relatives - whether it be the 750,000 volunteers who signed up for the National Citizen Service to provide local services or the everyday kindness of neighbours and communities providing support for the elderly from food deliveries to medication.
