IF THERE are two areas that you would think would be sacrosanct when it came to cutting state spending, they are the police and the Armed Forces. After all, what greater duty does a government have to its people than to keep them safe? And so it is truly shocking to learn that the police have been so starved of resources that only six of our 43 police forces employ officers to run the front desks, while 606 stations have closed since 2010.
