In my job as editor of the Jewish Chronicle I'm asked to speak to lots of non-Jewish groups. I have a party trick: I ask how many Jews there are in Britain. Go on, have a guess. Most people say around a million. Some say two or three million. The correct figure according to the 2011 Census is 263,346.
