North Korea threatens nuclear action in response to U.N. sanctions

SEOUL, South Korea — North Korea has switched its nuclear weapons on standby, ready to strike at any time, state media reported on Friday.

Its leader Kim Jong Un reportedly issued the order in a show of anger over the recent adoption of harsh U.N. sanctions over its recent nuclear test and long-range rocket launch.

The North's official Korean Central News Agency carried a statement saying: "We sternly reject the U.N. sanctions as we view them to be the most reckless provocation."

On Thursday, hours after the U.N. unanimously voted for the sanctions, the North fired off short-range projectiles into the sea. Read more...
