UNIVERSAL CREDIT and housing benefit claimants are impacted by local housing allowance rates which are used to work out how much support is awarded to those who rent privately. Recently, the Government announced it would effectively freeze these rates and following a sharp rise in house prices and rents, benefit claimants have been warned tough times may lie ahead.
