Our heavy industry has been replaced by innovative new businesses. Transport is changing here too - from the electric and driverless cars built by our automotive experts to mass-transit systems linking us to our many communities and beyond.

CREDIT card-holders, overdraft users and consumers of other debt-focused products will continue to receive support beyond October. The new guidance will apply to both consumers who had already benefitted from support under the current rules and to those yet to face financial difficulties but are now being affected by coronavirus.

LIKE many, I found myself shouting at my telly after the referendum just wanting Parliament to get on and deliver what the majority of the British people voted for. Before becoming an MP in December 2019, I was running my own small business. The never-ending uncertainty of not knowing if we would leave the EU was without doubt damaging firms up and down the country, people just wanted some confidence that a decision would be made.

At the last election, we pledged to level-up the regions that have been left out of the South East's growth and prosperity. So far, much of the focus has been on the role of infrastructure and the need to invest in our struggling town centres and rightly so.

Last December's General Election was historic. There's no other way to put it. In my seat of Bishop Auckland, following months of hard campaigning graft, I became the first Conservative to win the seat since its creation in 1885. Around me in the north east, Labour seats fell like dominoes. Blyth Valley, Stockton South, Darlington, Sedgefield, and North West Durham all saw voters crossing the floor in huge swathes and voting Tory, many for the first time.

As I have been going around the country attending Blue Collar Conservative Conversations, one thing that has come across loud and clear is that people do not feel that we are keeping them safe or locking criminals up for long enough - especially those who repeatedly break the law. They are absolutely right.
