THE greatest mistake any political commentator can make is to assume that anything is inevitable. I speak from some chastened experience: before the 2017 election, I would have bet my mortgage on Jeremy Corbyn leading Labour to electoral disaster. He lost, for sure. But with 40 percent of the vote, it was no disaster. Mr Corbyn secured his leadership.
