Creditors approve Homebase rescue deal
HOMEBASE has won approval for a rescue deal which will lead to the closure of 42 of its 241 stores, with the loss of up to 1,500 jobs. Nearly 96 per cent of creditors backed an insolvency procedure known as a company voluntary arrangement at a London meeting, without which it could have collapsed into administration.

Pound v euro: GBP/EUR exchange rate dips
The pound has suffered a minor loss against the euro today, with the decline being caused by potential fears about the Brexit process. Sterling is currently trading at €1.114 in the GBP/EUR exchange rate, which is down from Thursday’s high of €1.116 but still better than the weekly opening rate of €1.104.

Africa wants free trade, not to be reliant on UK aid, says ROSS CLARK
THERE are still people who refuse to see how Brexit could possibly bring any benefits to Britain, and that in enacting the referendum vote the Government is just pandering to Little Englanders who want to cut the country off from the outside world. Theresa May's tour of South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria this week will hopefully have put them right.

Pound v euro: GBP/EUR exchange rate near one-week high as EU warms to Brexit talks
The pound has held close to opening levels against the euro today, but remains near a one-week high in the GBP/EUR exchange rate at a level of €1.112. Sterling’s appreciation has come after signs that the EU is willing to cooperate with the UK in Brexit talks.

Revolts at pay greed double
INVESTORS turned up the heat on management at annual meetings this year as revolts over boardroom pay doubled. The number of pay resolutions at FTSE 100 firms where the level of dissent climbed above 20 per cent reached 18 to the end of July.

Signs that Brussels is now prepared to make a deal - EXPRESS COMMENT
