AS THE big freeze intensifies new research shows that nearly a fifth of UK homes have suffered a boiler breakdown in the past year with the average household having to fork out £245 on repairs. Many struggle to fund the cost with half being forced to dig into their savings, while more than one in 10 turned to credit cards or a bank loan, according to figures from uSwitch.com.
