YESTERDAY, I offered a home-made chocolate to a young lady colleague and was astonished when she declined, informing me that she had given up chocolate for Lent. It was a dark chocolate filled with a ganache that I invented, made of Cointreau, cream, passion fruit and white chocolate and giving up such a treat struck me as taking the whole of this Lent business too seriously.
