Why the TSA singled out a transgender woman for an ‘anomaly’

Shadi Petosky was flying out of Orlando airport when she says Transportation Security Administration agents held her in a private room and interrogated her about her gender.

"I am being held by the TSA in Orlando because of an 'anomaly': (my penis)," she tweeted, protesting the callous treatment and enhanced screening that later caused her to miss her flight.

Petosky, who referred to the incident as “denigrating,” tweeting a photo of herself after she had clearly been crying, is not the first traveler to highlight the difficulties in navigating the TSA's black-and-white gender policies. Read more...
