FOR some reason I cannot fathom, none of the commentators on the recent Labour Party leadership election seems to have had anything to say about the fact that the name of the winner probably stems from the old word “corbin” for a raven or crow. I hasten to remedy that omission with a quick verse in the style of the grandmaster of ravenous poetry, Edgar Allen Poe, himself.
