WEDNESDAY’S State Opening of Parliament displayed, as always, the smoothness and precision we have come to expect of royal ceremonials but few are aware of the intricate planning leading up to Black Rod’s pounding on the door of the House of Commons with his black rod to gain entrance for the Queen.
