THIS year offers a wide range of centenaries to celebrate: it is 100 years since the end of fighting in the First World War; 100 years since Britain first gave votes to women; 100 years since the birth of both Nelson Mandela and Leonard Bernstein and 200 years since the publication of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.
